INTERNATIONAL
Nigeria is bound by signed agreements to various international policies, documents, conventions and laws that protect the rights of people, particularly children and women. All of them look at the rights of children and women from a global view.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR)
This declaration was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10th, 1948.
It proclaims human rights as a common standard of achievement for all people.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child
It was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in November 1989.
The policy is aimed at protecting the rights of children all over the world.

The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (PFA)
This declaration was adopted during the Fourth World Conference on Women held in Beijing, China in September 1995.
The aim is to address girls and women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights issues.

International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), Programme of Action (POA)
At the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in Cairo, Egypt in 1994, the Program of Action was adopted to place women’s reproductive health and rights at the centre of the population and development agenda.
