At the national level, Nigeria has various policies and acts to promote and protect the rights of its citizens.

The 1999 Nigerian Constitution has laws that govern and protect the human rights of its citizens.

Policies
National Policy on Women: The policy aims at encouraging and involving women as equal partners, decision-makers and beneficiaries in shaping a greater future for all the citizens of Nigeria.

National Gender Policy: Adopted by the Nigerian government in December 2006 and aimed at eliminating traditions and customs that prevent the full participation of women on an equal basis with men in national development.

Child’s Rights Act: A follow-up to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Adopted by the Nigerian government in 2003.
